Overview
Dictionary 2.0 is a vocabulary lookup tool that helps you understand words and phrases using your device camera or text input. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
Information We Collect
- Account information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. This is used solely for authentication and displaying your account in the app.
- Usage counts: We track daily lookup counts per user to enforce usage limits. This data is stored in Google Firestore and does not include the words or phrases you look up.
How Your Data Is Processed
- Camera images: All OCR (optical character recognition) processing happens locally on your device using Tesseract.js. Camera images are never uploaded to any server.
- Definition lookups: When you look up a word or phrase, the text is sent to the Perplexity AI API to generate definitions and translations. We do not store the content of your lookups.
- Authentication: We use Firebase Authentication for sign-in. Your credentials are handled directly by Google and Apple — we never see or store your passwords.
Data Storage
Account and usage data is stored in Google Firestore, a secure cloud database operated by Google Cloud Platform. Data is retained as long as your account is active.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
- We do not use advertising trackers or analytics SDKs.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Your Rights
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app by going to Settings and selecting "Delete Account." Upon deletion, we will immediately remove all stored data associated with your account.
